The power of Titanium Dioxide

The power of Titanium Dioxide

Titanium Dioxide or TiO2 is the most widely used prime pigment in paints, coatings, plastics, paper and many other products. Typically TiO2 provides opacity and whiteness to end products. HITOX® and TIOPREM® (heat stable for high temperature applications), however, are unique beige and gray colored Rutile TiO2 pigments. They occupy a marketing niche as high quality, color pigments that offer cost savings by replacing some of the more expensive color pigments as well as white TiO2 in a broad range of color formulations. HITOX® and TIOPREM® are commonly used by major international paint and plastics manufacturers. Uses include paints and coatings (architectural, industrial, metal finishes, powder coating, coil backers, primers and wood coatings), sealants, floor tiles, PVC and plastics master batch.

We work with…

– Alumina Trihydrate (ATH)
– Boehmite (alumina monohydrate or AMH)
– TiO2-Color Pigments
– Barium Sulfate

Beyond flame retardant & smoke suppressant properties , our HALTEX & ALUPREM ATH and Boehmite products offer strong significant performance benefits in coatings applications.

* Typical uses include powder coatings, roof coatings, industrial coatings and paints and primers.
* HALTEX 310 / TA-10 particle sizing ideal for lowering gloss- “matting effect”

ALUPREM Boehmite

* Ultra-fine, high whiteness pigment is suitable as a high quality white TiO2 extender
* Mineral hardness provides important scratch resistance to coatings

* Beige & Gray Colored Hybrid Pigments offer cost savings in a wide range of colors
* Widely used by major international paint companies

BARTEX Barium Sulfate

* High whiteness / brightness, chemical inertness and high density
* Used in powder coatings as an extender in top coats & primers

TOR Thermoplastics

For the thermoplastics market, TOR Minerals offers a full range of flame retardant & smoke suppressant solutions for applications like flexible & rigid PVC, Wire & Cable, Pipe and Flooring:

* HALTEX & ALUPREM ATH products are designed for use in resin systems such as polyethylene, PVC & acrylics, where compounding temperatures are below 200°C. Engineered surface treatment is available to improve dispersion and increase ATH loadings for higher performance.

* ALUPREM Boehmite is thermally stable to processing temperatures >300°C, suitable for polypropylene and engineered thermoplastic applications. ALUPREM boehmite offers excellent dispersion, good resin compatibility and improved mechanical properties.

* BARTEX barium sulfate is a white, high density filler used to add weight and improve the efficiency of color pigments in thermoplastics.

Are granite counters going, going, gone? -Article from the Chicago Tribune Real Estate-

Sin categoría
For the past decade, granite has hogged the spotlight as the favored countertop material. Granite is beautiful, strong and comes in enough colors to compliment any kitchen design scheme imaginable. It’s also a natural stone, and in today’s green environment, this makes granite highly prized. It can tolerate heat and can often increase the value of your home. Granite also has serious drawbacks, however, and now, some new competition.

Nearly everyone who has granite countertops will tell you they’re elegant, beautiful to look at and a royal pain to maintain. Keeping that high luster requires rigorous polishing, and only certain cleaners can be used so the finish is preserved. On top of all that, granite requires resealing from time to time.

Without a doubt, the kitchen needs more maintenance than any other room of the house. Clean-up is the name of the game 365 days a year. When choosing countertops, looks certainly matter, but spending less time making the countertops sparkle means you’ll have more time to do other things.

Corian tops the list of low-maintenance countertop materials. In the 1980s and ’90s, Corian was the luxury choice, but it fell out of favor as granite came in and made Corian look dated. Today, Corian and other solid surfaces can mimic the look of natural stone while being far easier to clean than granite or other natural products like wood or marble.

Solid surface manufacturers such as Corian and Wilsonart can integrate sinks with countertops so they don’t have seams where dirt and gunk can collect. These surfaces are prone to scratches, but such damage can be sanded out. And keep in mind that if you place hot pans on the counter, they will burn the surface. While the costs are close to natural granite, the payoff is low maintenance.

Today you can choose from laminates with the look of stone to paper composite countertops that also look like stone at half the price per square foot of granite. Today’s laminate can be made with custom edges and mimic the colors and patterns of natural stone.

Another great replacement for granite is engineered quartz, such as Caesarstone, Silestone or Cambria. This type of countertop is rugged, low maintenance, and offers the look and feel of natural stone. It has all the benefits of granite – great looks, durability – but without the worry about resealing or using specialty cleaners.

They don’t come cheap, though. The price point for engineered quartz is close to that of granite. So, while not inexpensive, it’s tough competition for granite.

One more application of our most refined ATH

Our Aluminum Trihydrate has to overcome strong and long quality control requirements, but that is what makes it exceptional.

HALTEX & ALUPREM ATH products are flame retardant / smoke suppressants suitable for a wide range of rubber products. Applications include electrical insulators, mining belts, roofing, foam and other rubber goods. Engineered particle sizing and surface treatment are key features in meeting specific application performance requirements.

BARTEX Barium Sulfate with its inherent high density gives weight and body to a variety of rubber products including floor mats and carpet/curtain backings.
